Polybutylene pipe identification

Polybutylene is gray, sometimes blue or black, flexible plastic supply pipe stamped PB2110. It was installed roughly 1978 to 1995 and it fails at the fittings.
Look at the pipe entering the water heater or at the main shutoff. The pipe itself often survives; the acetal insert fittings crack. Many insurers now decline or surcharge homes still on polybutylene, which is worth checking before your renewal rather than after a claim.
