Slab leak repair

Sooner Home Services

A slab leak shows as a warm spot on the floor, an unexplained water bill increase, or the sound of running water with everything off. Locate before anyone breaks concrete.

Hot-side leaks are the common ones and produce the warm patch. Shut the main and watch the meter for fifteen minutes to confirm the leak is on the house side — if the dial still moves with everything off, it is yours. Repair options are spot repair, reroute overhead, or repipe, and the right one depends on pipe age and how many leaks you have had.

Oklahoma clay soil swells when wet and shrinks when dry, which stresses pipe run under a slab every season. Newer housing is the exposed group here: post-2000 stock is PEX under slab, which is why Owasso at 16% pre-1980 sees this failure more than Enid at 69%, where the pipe usually runs through walls and crawlspaces instead.

Rule out the cheaper explanations first. Pressure loss at one fixture is an aerator, not a slab leak. A running toilet explains a surprising number of bill jumps and costs a few dollars to fix.
