Sewer smell in house

Sooner Home Services

A sewer smell is almost always a dry trap, a failed wax ring, or a vent problem. It is rarely the sewer line itself.

Pour water into any floor drain or unused fixture – dried traps let gas straight in and this fixes it in seconds. A smell concentrated at one toilet points to the wax ring. If it worsens when other fixtures drain, the vent stack is blocked.
