Two prong outlet upgrade
Sooner Home Services
A two-prong outlet has no equipment ground. Replacing it with a three-prong outlet without running a ground is worse than leaving it, because it invites people to trust a ground that is not there.
The code-recognized options are running a proper ground, or fitting GFCI protection and labeling the outlets as ungrounded. A ten dollar plug-in tester will tell you which outlets in your house are genuinely grounded. Surge protectors need a ground path to function at all.
